After chatting with a client recently, I came to the realisation that many of you may not know what conditioning work is and why it might be important for our dogs.
So...what is the point??? And why might you want to invest some time in learning how to create better strength in your dog??
Did you know that most of our domestic dogs are inherently core weak? They are born and raised primarily on flat surfaces, that are often slippy, and their exercise is often over flat terrain, resulting in core musculature that is rarely challenged, leaving our dogs vulnerable to injury.
This applies to ALL our dogs, so conditioning work can be really important for even the most sedentary pets. But it becomes even more important when our dogs take part in sport, work or are particularly active. At this point our dogs are ATHLETES! Athletes that are at risk of injury.
We can never eliminate the risk of injury but we certainly can reduce that risk considerably by creating a dog that is physically capable of coping with the demands of their daily life. And we can do this through regular, very simple, conditioning exercises.
If you would like to know more about whether conditioning work could benefit your dog (it definitely will! ) then please drop me a message. I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have!
