Ellie starts Foundation Conditioning Course

Last night Ellie started on the Foundation Conditioning Course

She had signed up for classes but unfortunately this time round I've had poor uptake (which is another post I will address soon).......but....on the plus side for Ellie it has meant she gets the course delivered 121

I just wanted to share these pictures from last night as I find it fascinating. Ellie is a super fit Whippet that competes in flyball and she can be an anxious little person, especially around me as treatment is not her favourite past time!!

This is her first attempts at a stacked square stand using foot targets and it's just so interesting how much information such a simple exercise can give us about the way a dog is using their body. Her default posture is to send her weight back, tuck her pelvis and roach her back, especially when she is a little anxious, which is going to lead her to abnormal muscle recruitment. What was also interesting, that when ever we tried to pull her weight forward to improve the posture she broke from the foot target with her right hind, and indicator of weakness in the deep core associated with this hind limb

This was her first attempts, so it is far from perfect, but with all this new knowledge we can start to tailor the program to specifically improve Ellie's outcomes, reduce her risk of injury and improve her sporting performance. I can't wait to see her square stand after a few weeks of consistent conditioning training to see the difference
